Striker Chris Kane extends St Johnstone deal by another year

Long-serving striker Chris Kane has extended his stay with St Johnstone by another year after agreeing a new deal for the upcoming season.

The 28-year-old forward has played more than 200 games for Saints since making his debut for the Perth club in November 2013.

There was some doubt about his future after he made only two appearances in the season just finished following a 16-month injury lay-off.

But recently-installed manager Steven MacLean has offered Kane the chance to remain with the club at which he has spent his entire career bar a couple of loan stints at Queen of the South and Dumbarton.

“I’m delighted to sign the extension and stay at the club I have been at since I was 15,” he told the Saints website.

Former Everton boss David Moyes pays tribute to ‘wonderful man’ Bill Kenwright

David Moyes paid a warm tribute to “wonderful man” Bill Kenwright following the death of his former chairman at Everton.

Everton announced on Tuesday that Kenwright had died aged 78 following a battle with cancer.

Moyes and Kenwright formed a close bond during the Scot’s 11-year spell as manager at Goodison Park between 2002 and 2013.

“It’s incredibly sad news,” Moyes said at his pre-match press conference ahead of West Ham’s Europa League clash with Olympiacos.

“He was a wonderful man, he gave me a big opportunity in my career, taking me when I was a young manager in the lower leagues and gave me a job in the Premier League.

“Brilliantly supportive. I couldn’t have had a better chairman, as a young coach.

Man City win Premier League 2020-21: Guardiola savours hardest title

Pep Guardiola has declared Manchester City s 2020-21 Premier League success to be the hardest title triumph of his career.

Leicester City s 2-1 victory at Manchester United on Tuesday left Guardiola s side with an unassailable 10-point advantage at the summit with three games remaining.

It is City s third championship win in four seasons and fifth in the past decade, but their manager acknowledged the extenuating circumstances of this campaign made it an achievement like no other.

Guardiola now has nine league titles from his 12 seasons in senior coaching – three apiece with Barcelona, Bayern Munich and City – but making it three in Manchester looked unlikely as his players stumbled through the opening weeks of this term.

Qatar 2022 World Cup to implement semi-automated offside VAR

FIFA has confirmed it will utilise semi-automated VAR offside technology at the Qatar 2022 World Cup later this year, says head of refereeing Pierluigi Collina.

The move to introduce further advancements in the VAR process for this year s showpiece tournament has been ongoing over the past few months.

Following trials at the Arab Cup and Club World Cup, the fresh processes – which can cut VAR decision-making from 70 seconds to 25 seconds – is set to be implemented in the Gulf State in November.

Collina, a former World Cup final referee when he took charge of Brazil s win over Germany at Korea/Japan 2002, says the time is now to bring in semi-automated technology, which will further enhance decision-making.

We are very positive. It is ready,  he…

FA to investigate Euro 2020 final disorder

The Football Association (FA) will conduct a review into the unprecedented level of public disorder that marred Sunday s Euro 2020 final.

Italy beat England 3-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw at Wembley, although the hours building up to the game were dominated by scenes of unruly conduct on Wembley Way and in Leicester Square, both of which were left strewn with litter and debris.

That unrest was then wrought upon the match venue itself as supporters without tickets – successfully in some cases – attempted to enter the stadium.

The FA will work in association with the Metropolitan Police, who made 49 arrests in connection with the final.

We will carry out a full review and investigation into the events that took place at Wembley Stadium before and du…
