Tottenham forward Son ´really sorry´ for Gomes injury

Tottenham forward Son Heung-min has apologised for his involvement in Andre Gomes horrific injury and says the last few days have been really tough .

Son was left visibly distraught after his tackle on Gomes in Sunday s 1-1 Premier League draw at Everton contributed to the midfielder colliding horribly with Serge Aurier and suffering a fracture dislocation to his right ankle.

The South Korea international, who received a red card that was later rescinded, was named in Tottenham s line-up for Wednesday s Champions League clash with Red Star Belgrade and scored twice in a 4-0 win.

After making it five goals in four European outings this term, Son thanked his Tottenham team-mates and supporters for helping him through a difficult week.

Chelsea turn to Giroud

Oliver Giroud is the latest forward to be linked with a move to reigning Premier League champions Chelsea, according to the Mirror.

The France international’s future at the Emirates has been the subject of speculation since the summer, when he was a target for Everton.

However, he could now be set for a switch to Stamford Bridge with Blues boss Antonio Conte on the lookout for a new target man.

Andy Carroll of West Ham United, Stoke City’s Peter Crouch, Ashley Barnes of Burnley and Roma’s Edin Dzeko have all been mentioned as potential new additions though a deal for any of those is yet to come to fruition.

Giroud has been at the Emirates Stadium since the summer of 2012 and has since racked up two hundred and fifty-two appearances for the Nort…

It s time to re-focus our attention on the FIFA World Cup that is set to take place in Qatar at the end of the year. A parade of nations from around the globe are attempting to reach the promised land of the FWC and now, in the European qualifiers, we re down to the nitty-gritty. Today, we ll be taking a look at the upcoming semi-final meeting between Wales and Austria in Cardiff.

Wales

The Welsh may have crashed and burned in dramatic fashion against Denmark in Euro 2020 but they did put forward a fairly good account of themselves up to that point. They ve got a hungry team full of future stars combined with some wily veterans and with the home fans behind them, they should be able to do some damage.

No comfort at home for Arsenal – What´s behind the Gunners´ woes at Emirates Stadium

In 2020 more than any other year, people have had to learn to appreciate being in their homes. However, as the 2020-21 season has progressed, that has become an increasingly difficult task for Arsenal.

Following a North London derby defeat to Tottenham, the Gunners sit a lowly 15th in the Premier League, eight points adrift of the top four and a return to Champions League football they so desperately crave and 11 behind their league-leading neighbours.

Their dismal start to the season is partly down to poor form at their Emirates Stadium home.

Arsenal have lost three home league games on the spin, scoring once and conceding six goals, and manager Mikel Arteta knows that has to change if they are to have any chance of climbing the table.

Barcelona 3 Leganes 1: Messi and Suarez combine to spare Barca´s blushes

Lionel Messi played an important role off the bench with an assist for Luis Suarez before scoring himself as Barcelona secured a 3-1 win over Leganes at Camp Nou.

Ernesto Valverde s decision to rest Messi almost backfired after Martin Braithwaite cancelled out a goal from Ousmane Dembele, who was later forced off injured, but the Argentinian came off the bench to inspire Suarez s goal and then rounded out proceedings.

Dembele was almost unplayable right from the start and it came as no surprise to see him find the breakthrough with a tidy finish just after the half-hour mark.

The France international was unfortunately replaced due to a suspected hamstring problem shortly after Braithwaite made the scores level, but Suarez put Barca back in front in the 71st minu…

Coquelin relishing Arsenal opportunity

Francis Coquelin is determined to take his chance in the Arsenal first team after making his first Premier League start since January 2013.

The 23-year-old midfielder has struggled to break into Arsene Wenger s side since making his debut in 2008, and was out on loan at Charlton Athletic earlier this month.

However, Arsenal s injury problems saw the Frenchman recalled by Wenger and he has made four appearances since.

His first start came against West Ham on Sunday, and he is now looking to push on and cement a regular place at the Emirates Stadium.

He said: It s been a long time for me without [starting] in the Premier League, but I think the loan at Charlton was very good for me and helped me a lot.

I got a lot of games under my belt, and I…

Mac Allister in no hurry to end Brighton stay despite big club interest after World Cup win

Alexis Mac Allister is in no rush to make an exit from Brighton and Hove Albion after his World Cup triumph, despite reported interest from multiple European heavyweights.

The Argentina midfielder earned a recall to the national team at the start of last year and proved instrumental in helping Lionel Messi and company reach the summit at Qatar 2022.

His form had already been impressive for the Seagulls this term, but his performances with La Albiceleste have seen links to several major suitors only multiply since.

But speaking after his return to the Premier League outfit following an extended post-tournament break, Mac Allister has insisted he is happy at Brighton.

I try not to read too much [into speculation], he told the club s Albion TV channel. I al…

Hungary 1 Northern Ireland 2: Lafferty leaves it late

Northern Ireland came from behind to claim a dramatic 2-1 victory over Hungary in their opening Euro 2016 qualifying match.

The British nation have never qualified for the European Championship before but late goals from Niall McGinn and Kyle Lafferty got them off to a stunning start in Budapest on Sunday.

Michael O Neill s men failed to score in their previous four matches and appeared set to draw another blank after Corry Evans missed a first-half sitter and substitute Tamas Priskin put the hosts ahead with 15 minutes to play.

But the visitors fought back and levelled through McGinn in the 81st minute before Lafferty tapped in the crucial goal to end an eight-game winless streak.

O Neill spoke in the build-up about genuine optimism in the Northern Irish…
